United Airlines is set to become the first U.S. carrier to resume flights to Tel Aviv, with the first scheduled departure from Newark Liberty International Airport on March 15, 2025. This marks a significant step in restoring air connectivity between the United States and Israel after a prolonged suspension due to regional instability.
Following a thorough assessment of operational conditions and security concerns, United Airlines confirmed its decision in coordination with its pilots’ and flight attendants’ unions. Initially, the airline will operate one daily flight, with the possibility of adding a second daily service from March 29, based on passenger demand.
Impact of Suspension and Industry Response
United Airlines had previously suspended its Tel Aviv operations in October 2023 following escalations in the Middle East. Before the suspension, the airline operated 28 weekly flights from Tel Aviv, including routes to New York, Chicago, Washington, and San Francisco.
Other major U.S. carriers have also planned their return to Israel. Delta Air Lines is set to restart its Tel Aviv-New York service on April 1, offering seven flights per week. American Airlines has announced its own resumption plans, aiming for a September 2025 return.
United Airlines will continue monitoring regional stability and travel demand to determine whether additional routes or increased frequency will be necessary. The airline emphasized its longstanding relationship with Tel Aviv and its commitment to re-establishing seamless travel options between the U.S. and Israel.
